Again this is a simple project that can be built in a matter of a couple of hours and the finished product will be a nice focul point to any garden. This easy woodworking project is slightly harder than the toys above but is still well within the reach of a beginner. The only wood you need for this project is six square and these can be fixed with l shaped brackets.
A good training before initiating any woodworking project, is to coach your child how to take a hammer and nail, or techniques to use a saw adequately. Let them manipulate with tiny pieces of wood. Tell them to make a sword for example, or a simple airplane. Both are cross-shaped, and with some children’s fantasy they shall end up to become really satisfying.
Router- The last tool I’m going to recommend for any beginner is a router. The router allows you to finish the edges of you projects to your liking. They come in two different bases, a stationary base and a plunger base. I recommend the stationary base for any beginner. It will be able to take care of almost all your woodworking needs.
Once you have your cutouts, place the two 430mm lengths on the floor roughly two feet apart and lay your three one metre lengths across them sitting in the cut outs. Arrange the one metre lengths so they have a small equal gap between them. Because of the weight of the oak beams no fixing is needed. To keep the beams from moving a small wedge or dowel can be pushed into the gaps, but this is not really necessary.
A good place to look for free projects and plans is you local timber or home improvement supply store. They often stock a series of standard plans and projects for you to look through and take home. Also when you purchase materials or supplies, they can give you project plans as part of deal or incentive. Talk with them with what you have in mind and often they can work something out with you.
An easy project has simple joints. In the butcher block hot pad example above, I said that it could still be considered moderately easy. That’s because all the joints are butt joints. Butt joints are simply fastening two pieces of wood together. It’s the easiest way to do it, but it is also the weakest. To add strength to a joint you do one or both of the following. One is to increase the gluing surface between the two pieces such as with a lap joint. The other is to shape the wood in such a way that it tends to stay together by itself such as with a dovetail joint.
Woodworkers often look for “Cool Woodworking Projects”or “woodworking projects for beginners” on the Internet–simple projects that can be completed with basic tools. Outdoor wood furniture is a terrific project to begin with, and plans are available for all skill levels. Although any job can be made easier by the use of power tools, many of these outdoor wood furniture items can be built using only hand tools. The simplest of these plans turn out a fairly rustic-looking piece of furniture, but the rustic style is what many people choose for their outdoor furniture.
The garden bench can be put together in no time by simply fixing wooden slats together. The simplicity of this very easy woodworking project belies just how good the finished article looks. In fact I bet the one you could make will look better than one you could buy in a shop and for a fraction of the price.
This is probably the easiest thing you can build and requires only some wood, small nails, and glue. You will also need a hammer and a saw for tools. This is a perfect first project because you will probably need a tool box if you are going to continue woodworking. Once you finish this one, you will be ready to move onto something a little more advanced.
