Easy Woodworking Projects: What Makes Them So Easy?

Another area is publications and magazines. Ok, so maybe their not really free, but they can have a supersize issue during the popular months and pack a lot of tips, guides and projects for the price of a few dollars. It can be hit or miss with these home and outdoor magazines but you never know until you look through them. I have found many great outdoor projects such bar tables, little benches, pet beds, bird baths, wind chimes, and much more.

An easy project has straight cuts. The hot-pad example above would be more difficult if it were round. Table saws and miter saws are designed to make straight cuts. Straight cuts on such saws are easy to achieve because the saw reduces the factor of human error. You set it up, and the saw itself make the cut straight. A curved cut, on the other hand, requires skill and patience and is much more difficult. The difficulty is increased if you cut out several identical curved pieces.

Besides picking the project, it is important to see how complex the plans are. It is essential that you understand what you are looking at and can apply it to making the item. Easy plans will have a list of the tools and equipment needed to complete the task. It is also a good idea that you understand what is being asked of you. Are they written in a way that a newcomer can understand or will you need to consult an engineer? If they are not clear and detailed then you take the chance of becoming lost and discouraged.

Start small and you’ll see for yourself that you can do it and be rewarded by a nice finished product. These are called wood craft or woodworking kits. Among the easiest ones is a toy box kit. It comes with the precut pieces of wood, hinges and screws. The only tool you need to put this one together is a screw driver. You can purchase paint and sanding material of you want to give it a finer finish. You can try your hand at varnish, too.

To make sure your child stays focused and stays clear of danger you have to pick a woodworking project that the child understands. It has to be simple, clearly laid out and executable in one day, preferably within hours.

Also, never forget to use quality woodworking plans! That goes even for Woodworking Crafts.By making mistakes, you sometimes have to start from scratch and that won’t exactly save you money. it will cost you some! I had to learn this the hard way and I don’t suggest you do the same. That’s because no matter how good you think you are, sometimes things don’t turn out the way you wanted to.

Seventh and perhaps most important is learning to relax while sharpening the various tools. If a poor edge or the wrong angle is obtained, it is a simple matter to return to the tool grinder and fix it. Tension is more likely to ruin an edge than is poor technique. Besides, woodturning is meant to be fun. Relaxing and enjoying such a large part of the process only adds to the amusement. Once again, consider making or buying a sharpening jig to add to the joy of woodturning.

I must admit that this is my all time favourite, I will never forget scouring the backstreets trying find suitable wheels for my first go kart. I built it with no plans and it turned out ok. Later karts that I built using wood working plans turned out much better.

This happens to be a feel bad for, because it’s really not hard to teach your kids responsibility towards security in woodworking and materials maintenace and repair.

For best results, choose good quality wood, oak or a hardwood plywood is an excellent choice. Use several coats of polyurethane to protect the top of the bench. Be sure to sand between each coat. A good urethane coating makes messes easier to clean up when working on projects later.
